Hi for those that don’t know me my name is Lloyd James, not to be confused with Lloyd James Media it is important to state here and now that all we have in common is the name, well at the moment anyway, watch this space. I have spent the best part of 40 years at the cutting edge of advertising and direct marketing. Along the way I have gained knowledge that I would like to share with you. I hope you enjoy.
So, 40 years experience in trying to tell companies and agencies how to spend their advertising budget effectively, some listened and some did not. I have been part of some great success stories and some major catastrophes. I am well known for my no nonsense approach to every marketing nightmare and, more importantly stating the obvious where others fear to speak. I am also well known for my outrageous sense of humour and my completely non PC banter. So if you are easily offended then don’t read my blogs it’s really that simple.
I have helped to build dreams, worked on international award winning campaigns. I have been on marathon lunches, with some great characters, where gallons of wine have been consumed and some great ideas have been devised with notes on napkins. I have met some fantastic people many of whom I count as friends today and I have met some complete idiots, tossers and backstabbers.
I have witnessed some major cock-ups and seen some outrageous cover-ups that I will reveal along the way. I built a direct marketing company from scratch over 26 years ago into what became a multi million pound business and recognised in its heyday as the largest independent company of it’s kind. Not only will I pass on my advertising experience, my views on where that fits in the marketing mix, I will also share with you what I have learned about running a business in this bureaucratic, health and safety gone mad country of ours.
Some of the companies I have worked with have included: American Express, The Economist, Financial Times, Volkswagen, BMW, TalkTalk, O2, British Telecom, Fortnum & Mason, Harrods, Debenhams, Homebase, Red Bull, Next, La Redoute, HSBC, J Walter Thompson, Saatchi & Saatchi, WMGO, Wunderman, …. and as they say many many more. There have been some equally important small and medium size companies along the way.
As I have detailed above I want to make it perfectly clear at this stage of your search on Google or indeed on my blog page that I am absolutely nothing to do with Lloyd James Media a company based in Kent that is owned by private investors though that may change soon…
So I have been around the block, some would say a few times but so what because at least a rolling stone gathers no moss. I am still available for consultations, though I have always considered that someone calling themselves a consultant is usually a failed businessman, I am also available for thought showers (brain storming sessions apparently upset epileptics, that’s not me that’s a directive), lunches preferably with wine, weddings, bar mitzvah’s, in fact just about anything that pays a fee (always negotiable). I am also an introducer more recently I have introduced an acclaimed European concert pianist to the Beijing performing arts council and after one more of my introductions he will meet one of my heroes Lang Lang (Google him). I have recently introduced a UK designer to an Asian based granite producer and I am currently introducing a young design team in London to a Columbian based charity that they were desperate to work with. You see after so many years that little old black book of addresses has a unique value and comes in rather handy.
I also own a wonderful boutique hotel business and I am about to launch a chain of art galleries in the Philippines, now boasting one of the worlds fastest growing economies with incredibly wealthy consumers that have money to spend, they also happen to have the best beaches in the world, so, yes I am working with a friend on building a new beach resort just outside Cebu City.
So if you want to know more please sign up and follow me and if you want to meet up my details are on the contacts page I would honestly like to hear from you. Thank you for reading, that is of course if you got this far.
